Spot the Difference

Let’s go to McDonald’s and let’s spot the difference!

My friend and I went to a McDonald’s branch in Manila and ordered the same Value Meal plus one more item on top of it. We purchased the same items and sizes but they were differently priced. The receipts tell it all, though I cannot decipher them.

We ordered the Value Meal D which is also called the McNuggets Meal.

The McNuggets Meal is priced at Php 90.00. It includes:
5 pcs Chicken McNuggets
1 12oz drink of your choice
and a choice of either 1 regular sized French Fries or 1 pc Rice

I ordered Value Meal D with the choice of 1 pc Rice + 1 regular sized French fries. Let’s call this Tray A.
My friend ordered Value Meal D with the choice of 1 regular sized French Fries1 pc Rice. Let’s call this Tray B.

2 McNugget Meal Trays

What you see above are two trays both with the same number of items and sizes but differently priced.

Tray A (on the left) has:
5 pieces Chicken McNuggets
1 Barbeque Dip Sauce
1 pc Rice
1 12oz Sprite
1 regular French fries
2 packets of ketchup
a pair of spoon and fork plus table napkins

Tray B (on the right) has:
5 pieces Chicken McNuggets
1 Barbeque Dip Sauce
1 pc Rice
1 12oz Sprite
1 regular French fries
2 packets of ketchup
a pair of spoon and fork plus table napkins

Each tray was ordered on a single receipt. Both were purchased on the same day at the same McDonald’s branch.

The receipt for Tray A is = Php 105.00

105php

The receipt for Tray B is = Php 101.00

Food Content:
Tray A = Tray B

Price:
Tray A > Tray B

What happened? I don’t know. Maybe someone can explain what this phenomenon in McDonald’s is called and why does this happen.
